What’s your Choice?

Before I begin, I can’t help but show you the cuteness I’ve been dealing with at home. I’m not complaining, though!

dsc04429 dsc04430 dsc04431 < while Jasper has a ball, Tucker seems to have put himself in jail. His little brother annoys him sometimes. (True in humans, too, maybe?!)

We come across soo many choices throughout the day, in ever-single-aspect of life. Here, I’m actually asking your opinion. There’s no wrong answers here, so be bold!

SO– I’ve been thinking about a new theme. Even a new… name?! I don’t know how I feel about being “Miss Orange Pop” since I’ve cut out pop AND especially DIET pop! Maybe I can make it seem that I’m POPPING (like, popcorn) with excitement & abundance for life?

Potential Themes/Ways to Blog:

  • Centered around TEA. With this, I would have a “tea of the day,” perhaps (since I drink it daily & mix it up, anyway). I could give you the quote that is often on the tea bag string (like in Yogi & Good Earth teas) & ruminate about it. My logo with “Peace/Coffee” is great, but I’ve given up the coffee part!
  • How can I add the “Worth Ravin’ About” title in my posts more? Do I RAVE about new products I’ve found? Too many bloggers do “product reviews”, & while I appreciate it, I don’t want to be in the background with my own ravings…
  • Dogs. I have them & love them. I don’t want to blog about dog-food, though. Maybe I can make my own & blog about how the dogs enjoy it. This may be a bit far-fetched (har. har. fetched?)
  • The way I’m “popping” back to health. Gaining a bit of weight & strength, but also gaining my LIFE back. I don’t want to morph into an “ED-blog” though.
  • Do you want to see a daily-life post every week (or day, or once-and-a-while)? What I do, what I eat, who I am… suggestions?
  • Recipe tab- how do I make one?
  • Things I see & have happen to me. For example, at work, (it’s a health-food store) there are SO many, er, different people I come across, each with a different story. It’s comical sometimes, but sometimes I learn a lot.
  • Movies– I love watching them & quoting them. Do I speak to you in movie-quoted language?! (sometimes I wonder if I’d speak much, if it weren’t for movies!)
  • SUGGESTIONS/comments/votes are very much welcome!!! New header, tag-line, etc?

What do YOU want to see more/less of & have changed here?

How did YOU come up with the basis/idea/theme/name of YOUR blog?!

Thanks. Ya’ll ROCK! I’ll update my BlogRoll because I’m getting new readers! Leave your e-mail website, if you’d wish!

FIND JASPER!

lost dog

NOOOOO!!!!!! I am so sad. If you lived in my neighborhood, you’d see these signs posted all around. This one (^) is hanging from our mailbox (underneath is our phone #, which may or may not be 555-****).

Here’s what happened: I took Bella over to our house this week to have playmates, while everyone was at school & work. So, they’ve had a grand time & they go to bed totally zonked!

jasper + bella

Well, yesterday, Jasper & Bella dug themselves under the fence & ran freely. Some people down the street found them & took them in (aw, thanks!). These were the same people that took Jasper in when he ran away as a little pup. They dug themselves out of that yard, too!!! Bella came right to the door! Weird, because she is not the one who lives at our house & shouldn’t know where to go. But Jasper– he didn’t come back. The neighbors let us know & we searched & searched for hours, calling people, the vet, humane society, put up posters & signs… nothing, yet. Jasper has a micro-chip, so if someone takes him to the pound or a vet, we can find him that way, but only Mon-Fri!!!

I had to go to work soon after our search started & I was completely distracted & worried the whole night, leading me to a restless night of sleep(-lessness!) & awful dreams about it. I got up early to look, but figured people would have taken him in by now. I guess the waiting game is in order.

If anyone has seen him, please let me know & bring him home safely!!! Tucker is very worried, too!

Tucker

^ “Find my brother!”

If anyone out there has dogs, they’re like my kids, and I think everyone knows how sad losing a child can be!

I’m trying to think like Jasper. When he got out as a pup, a nice family found him at McDonald’s, looking hungry! When they saw our signs then & met us at the park to return him, the kids had already named him (Rocky), bought him a collar, leash, food… aw. He’d be where the people are, & not so much where the other dog-friends are! He’s curious!

Hopefully Jasper comes home soon!!!! I’ll update & post again when I find out something new!

Until then, I’ll leave you with a new smoothie I made yesterday, using this Fruitein Exotic Red Fruit protein packet:

red protein packet

& I mixed it with (~1 c.?) fresh strawberries, some water, ice, smilk & sogurt. I liked! Very fresh & berry-y, though it tasted a bit powdery sometimes, yanno?!

Okay. Back to worry-mode.

I hope your weekends were more worry-free than mine!

Sisters, Events & A Symptomatic Quest!

So, I’ve got a lot to catch up on!

1st of all, I have got to give a “shout-out” to Luna Bars! The other day, I was making my way home from Target, stopped at a light, and there was a homeless man with a sign that read, “Please Help- Hungry!” I just bought a PB Cookie flavor Luna (99 cents! I had to!) and know miserable it is to be hungry, so I rolled down my window and gave him the bar. I realize Luna’s are geared toward women, but this man had no idea! All he knew was he liked peanut butter and he was hungry! And, he was very appreciative, which was nice. So, thank you to Luna! I felt good about this deed.

Soo, Sister 2 is home from working volleyball camps, with a friend. She’s been talking about dying her hair dark for a while now. Also, getting a tattoo. My parents are supportive of doing what you want to do, but they can’t get past thinking a tattoo is, in any way, classy. I say, do what you want to do. She’s paying for it, both with her money, and her life-long decision with her body! One day, while I was away from the house, dog-sitting (and watched one of my favorite movies, Love Actually…even though it’s a Christmas-sy movie and it’s the end of July!), her and her friend scheduled an appointment at an Aveda salon. I get home, she gets home, and she’s DARK! We’re both naturally blonde, and she’s tried to go strawberry-blonde before, but that didn’t turn out so well (another ORANGE POP, in a different sense!). She did that by herself, with a dye-kit, so she wanted it professionally done. Fair enough. Here she is, still beautiful and dark-haired. Her scalp is even dark. It looked reddish-brownish-purplish, but I know it will die (dye!) down!
db hair

The lighting is okay on this, but she likes it, and I like it. So glad it’s off her mind. Seriously, she collected many, many magazine cutouts of colors she was debating with, which were all the same to me!

Here’s her beautiful friend and former volleyball teammate, giving Tucker some love:

higgi

The next day, while I’m at work, my uncle biked over to have lunch with me on my break! So nice! I used my discount, but he paid… fair?! Well, I get a text-message from Sister 2 saying, “Guess what?!” (what?) “I got a tattoo!” Niiiice. Here is her “Peace Dove“:
tattoo

It’s brown, if you can’t tell. Tattoo #1, and she gets it on her ribsow!

In other news, I’ve been having terrible stomach pains, so I’ve done a lot of research about it and paid attention to possible culprits, and you know, I’m not so excited about what I believe it is: Gluten Intolerance (aka Celiac Disease). I have many of the symptoms, which are:

  • weight loss
  • decreased appetite
  • bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, pale + foul-smelling stool
  • fatigue, weakness, lack of energy
  • bruise easily
  • vitamin/mineral deficiencies (vit. K) –> don’t know for sure about this one!
  • hypoglycemia –> I’ve sort of felt this way, but unsure
  • hair loss
  • lactose intolerance
  • tooth discoloration or loss of enamel
  • canker sores inside mouth
  • unexplained anemia –> don’t know
  • bone or joint pain
  • missed periods, infertility, miscarriages (well, I’m missing periods)
  • behavior changes, depression, irritability

(Sorry for TMI on some of these) It’s a multi-system, multi-symptom disorder and symptoms really vary! It’s kind of unknown how it starts, but it can happen anytime in one’s life and be triggered by things like stress, surgery, viral infection… Ah, very mysterious to me!

I’ve been eating a lot of just fruits, veggies, soy products, etc, but I have been feeling fatigued, so I added more grains to my diet. Remember when I made those Chickpea Cutlets that I raved about so much?! I used whole wheat flour and my appetite was shot, and my tummy hurt. Then, that night, I had whole wheat pasta and even my new Annie’s Woodstock dressing contains wheat! I felt myself “skimping” on solid calories and added more grains. 2 nights ago, I had some awesomely delicious Thai dumplings. Oh, I love Thai! Grains + whole wheat flour. Ouch.

 dumplings

Then, I looked at my day’s worth of food from yesterday and noted my intense stomach pains, and I contribute these guys to my discomfort:

-Breakfast: toast

fruit and PB&J on some whole grain + oatmeal bread

-Lunch was out (with Sister 1), and I had a sandwich on whole wheat bread and coleslaw.

kb

-Dinner included some bean balls, which I made with whole wheat flour to bind them.

I was in dire pain for the rest of the night, and even when I woke up this morning. I wasn’t hungry, but by the time I was, I didn’t know what to make that would feel good to me. I’ve done a lot of reading and researching about gluten-free diets, and noted quinoa is okay. This morning, I went on a bike ride with my aunt and we got rained on, so afterward, I wanted something warm and comforting. I was hungry, but didn’t know what to eat!!! I’d picked up some soup the other day at work, after hearing a customer through my line rave about it, so I bought it. I went on the company’s website and it is, in fact gluten-free, but contained rice starch… rice is, indeed, gluten-free, but I’m learning. “Starch” is a word to look out for on labels. I know that foods are wheat-free if they’re gluten-free, but not always gluten-free if they say they’re wheat-free. Wow. I’m going to be holding around a list of “yes” and “no” foods/ingredients for a while until I feel comfortable. When I went into the meal, I was hungry, but my tummy was hurting. Afterward, my stomach pains disappeared! Magic! I had some Cashew-Carrot-Ginger soup over quinoa, topped with carrots, cashews and pumpkin spice (which has ginger + cinnamon!). Very good!
soup

Well, well. I have a lot of photos for you in this post, and a lot of news. If anyone has any tips or anything like that, regarding Celiac Disease, I’d love to hear about it! I’ll be doing some more research and hopefully I’ll see the doctor soon! Is there a test he can do to tell me whether or not I am, in fact, gluten intolerant? I’ve read to not get rid of gluten in my diet before I’m diagnosed, but how long can I go on in intestinal pain?! I’m going to stay positive about this, because I can hurt or help myself on this one, and I’ve got to get educated and in-tune with myself if I want to help!

Spice up your life!

Yes, another old song, by the Spice Girls (anyone, anyone?!)… yeah, I see you dancing through that computer!

So, I came home from work to see my darling dogs, and look who I find looking so proud of what he made me:
jasper

Jasper!!! More work, for after-work! Cleanup, on aisle home! Now, Tucker gets really nervous when he thinks he might get into trouble, so he hides behind the couch, but not Jasper… “Look what I did for you- welcome home!” Thanks buddy! He’s too cute to get mad, though. I mean, really, he thought he was doing me something nice. Well, actually, I really don’t know how he got those little pieces of fabric. I think my grandma brought them over in a bag (for a reason I do not know!) and he sort of went all creative with them.

Oh, and some grub: vanilla soy yogurt with mango, apple, and half of a soon-to-be-too-ripe banana, with almonds and cinnamon. Guess who got the other half of the banana?! I usually don’t like bananas, but I’m the only one at home and we have 3 of them just sitting there, getting more bruises by the second, so I figured why not?! I loved all the different tastes and textures. This made it very satisfying!

There are 2 things that you can never have enough of: cinnamon and garlic!

More V’con Variations!

I merged 2 recipes from V’con to make 1 very nice one! I wanted to use some more of the chipotle peppers I had from the last recipe I used since I have a lot of heat left from those babies. But the “Everyday Vegetable-Chipotle Tamales” sounded like too much work and I don’t have the steamer basket it requires! Soo, I used the Everyday Vegetable-Chipotle filling recipe and turned them into enchiladas and used the recipe for the Enchilada Chile Sauce in the recipe for “Potato and Kale Enchiladas with Roasted Chile Sauce.” I used sundried-tomato wraps. Here was the finished product:

enchiladas

Totally vegan, but I put sour cream and cheese on the table for my family. Also, no Mexican-themed dinner is complete without tortilla chips, so I had those out, too! I wish I had taken a picture of the innards, but let me tell you it was pretty and delicious!

Tucker wanted some of my sister’s… but there was none left for him! And he would have cried from the spice! Sorry, boy!
tucker

My mom was giving Jasper a little taste, but he was distracted by the bright light of my camera and his eyes look spooky!

On another note, I just finished a book and am onto reading My Sister’s Keeper, by Jodi Picoult. I am only about 60-70 pages in, but I really like it and am excited to read it before I see the movie (With Cameron Diaz and “Little Miss Sunshine”)! Is that the best way to do it: read, then watch?! I think so, or I’ll never finish the book, because I know how it ends already!!!

Okay… another day of thrifting and hanging out! I go to my aunt’s to dog-sit tonight, so I’ll be checkin’ up on all your beautiful blogs there, most likely! Thanks to all those who have added me to their blogroll! Have a wonderful hump-day!

She works hard for the money!

(Bah-dum! Bah-dum!)

Tomorrow morning I start my first day of work! I’ve been looking for a job pretty much all summer, have applied and followed up with numerous places, with no immediate openings. However, just yesterday morning, I dropped off my application at my Co-Op, went for a bike ride, and I came back to have a missed call on my phone, asking for an interview that day! So, I went in, interviewed, and they pretty much gave me a job then, but had to call today to make it official. So, yes, it is official! I’ve worked in a Co-Op before, in Portland, but was a deli clerk. I want to get out of that role, so I didn’t “check” that on my interested departments. Right now, they only have a cashier position available, but there is a very good possibility I will be trained in other departments, too, like produce, bulk, grocery, body care… cool! I love that atmosphere, because the people that shop there, well, 1st they’re so hippie! And 2nd, they go there, a “health-food store,” specifically for a reason: because they are concerned about this Earth we live on, like supporting locals, care about their health, and all that… so day 1 of that is tomorrow! Orientation, then real work! Plus, the discounts aren’t a bad perk, either! You know me and my sales!

Saturday, though, I have even more money coming my way… After working at the Co-Op and getting off at 5:30 (or so?!), I have to feed these dogs I’m watching, go to a 7:00 babysitting gig, then back to the dog’s house (not the doghouse!) to house-sit for the night, get up, feed the dogs and take them out again… they live on the water, so maybe I can lay out there before they get home on Sunday! I better be appreciative now, because I’ve been without so much to do for a long time, with very little extra money to get me by!

Today my oldest sister and I went to get Indian food for lunch! It was my first time having this cuisine, and something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I loved it! It was spicy and I got to taste a bunch of different dishes I can’t describe or pronounce! I’ll be back! Our family went out and got breakfast for dinner tonight, at Cracker Barrel! We played checkers on the “front porch” as we waited for our table and looked at the old-fashioned goodies in the “general store” afterward!

Okay, I’m off to get some extra fuel for tomorrow with my last (boo!) Amy’s apple cinnamon toaster pop and some soymilk. I love soymilk and those toaster pops are yummy and make the house smell like the holidays! I need to find some pants in my closet that are suitable for work (just black or tan!). I’ve just requested for my family NOT to come to the store tomorrow, especially if they plan to use my discount. Have a good night 🙂
